Log construction was the most common building technique in large regions of Scandinavia, the Baltic states and Russia, where straight and tall coniferous trees, such as pine and spruce, are readily available. The thick, wooden walls keep you warm and dry in the boreal forests. It was also widely used for vernacular buildings in Eastern Central Europe, the Alps, the Balkans and parts of Asia, where similar climatic conditions prevail. In warmer and more westerly regions of Europe, where deciduous trees predominate, timber framing was favoured instead.
The footage was filmed in Southeast Finland, in the village of Lyytikkälä in Suomenniemi in 1990, and is a digitally remastered version from 16mm film.

Fascinating! Thank you!
You have shared one of my favourite videos on traditional cabin building. Its's a spectacular example of a kind of craftsmanship that only comes through repetition over years and decades.
There's another northmen video that in some ways actually contributed to my change in life but that's another story for another day :)
